Introduction: Suicide rates in the military more than doubled from 2001 to 2014 with current suicide rates for active duty servicemembers (ADSM) nearly twice as high than among the civilian population (28.2 versus 14.4 per 100,000, respectively). In response, the DoD has invested heavily in developing targeted suicide prevention interventions like Brief Cognitive Behavior Therapy for Suicide Prevention (BCBT), Crisis Response Planning (CRP), and Lethal Means Safety (LMS). Despite efforts to scale these interventions, increased accessibility to these trainings is needed, especially through asynchronous, virtual platforms to address the behavioral health shortage and provide evidence-based solutions that can be utilized by non-clinicians.
Methods: BCBT- and CRPweb are being constructed over five strategic phases. The inception phase brought together leaders in the field of military suicide prevention to provide input on the BCBT manual and scripts for the training videos. In the iteration phase (ongoing), key stakeholders and providers will complete BCBT- and CRPweb testing and provide feedback for preliminary revisions. In the release phase, 100 providers will complete additional testing and will provide feedback to inform revisions. In the production phase, 200 providers will complete either BCBT- and CRPweb or a live workshop and provide feedback
Results: Findings from alpha-testing as well as prototypes from the modules and corresponding vignettes will be presented. Significance: The immediate impact of BCBT- and CRPweb is rapid scaling of training platforms to address the behavioral health shortage and ease implementation costs and burden across military units. The long-term impact will ideally result in long-term reductions in suicide rates among military personnel and the enhancement of access to suicide-specific clinical care for ADSM, veterans, and civilians.
