South Korea launched a nationwide psychological service program providing short-term, individual psychological support to the general population. Eligible individuals are those identified by community hospitals or mental health centers as experiencing psychological difficulties and in need of psychological services. Referred participants are entitled to receive up to eight one-on-one sessions per year from designated professionals. To evaluate the effectiveness of this initiative, the Seoul Metropolitan Government conducted a monitoring project analyzing outcomes from 691 service recipients who participated through October 2025. The findings showed an average recovery rate of approximately 65.5%, with no significant differences according to providers’ qualification levels or types of professional certification. About 70% of the services delivered were classified as evidence-based treatments, with cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) accounting for approximately 40%. Overall client satisfaction was high, with a mean score of 4.77 out of 5. Although the data were derived from voluntary participants and therefore cannot be considered fully representative of all services provided in Seoul, the results suggest a generally positive impact of the program. Despite limited public awareness and uptake of evidence-based treatments such as CBT in Korea, these findings provide empirical support for the continued expansion and justification of CBT-based services within community mental health systems.
